Aerosol-DA

    System configuration:

  • Observations are retrievals of Aerosol Optical Depth at 550 nm from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) (thanks to Shobha Kondragunta from NESDIS); AOD pixels are thinned at 50 km and assimilated in a 6-hourly cycle using 3-hour half- window.
  • 20 ensemble members are running GEFS-Aerosols model with perturbed emissions at C96 (~100km) grid resolution; GEFS-Aerosols is a NOAA operational model that relies on Global Ozone Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport (GOCART) parameterization; the model has been developed at NOAA/OAR/GSL.
  • Meteorology is initialized with Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS) ensemble analyses in a 6-hourly cycle.

This project had been funded from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2022 by NOAA/Weather Prediction Office, Award number: NA19OAR4590080 and is currently not supported by a grant.
