Categorical Precip Types

I am seeing fractional values in addtion to [0,1] for categorical precip types, currently limited to the rain field crainsfc. Can anyone else verify this? If so, does it have significance or is it a bug? Want to make sure this is not an artifact in converting GRIB to netCDF prior to looking at the data.
