Radiation data in RAP products

First up, a word of thanks to NOAA and all other US agencies involved in making data (NWP, AWS, remote sensing etc) freely available to the global community. Open access to this data is a huge contribution to research in general. Many thanks!

I have been using NWP output in Australia (the Bureau of Meteorology's ACCESS-R model at 12.5 km and hourly time step) to provide a source of alternate data when gap filling data sets from a network of flux towers. The NWP radiation data (all 4 components) in particular is an extremely good match to the data collected at the flux towers and since radiation is a primary driver of surface exchange, good quality, surrogate radiation data is very useful.

I'm now looking for a similar product for use in the US so we can test our gap filling techniques as part of a collaboration with AmeriFlux and FluxNet.

I have found the 4 components of the radiation budget in the NAM data set (http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/nam/) but this is 3 hourly. I could interpolate, using solar elevation for the shortwave components, to hourly (we do this with the ERA Interim data) but would prefer to use hourly if available.

I've also found the HRRR data set (http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/hrrr/) which has radiation data but can only find the current and previous day on line. Is there a longer term archive of this data? If so, this would be ideal for our purposes.

And I've also looked at the RAP data (http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/rap/). This has a long time series of data available on line but I've been unable to find any radiation data in the files. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place since I have seen a reference to radiation data in the RAP product in a post on this forum. Any guidance on where to find a RAP product with radiation would be appreciated.

Once again, many thanks to the dedicated people who have worked behind the scenes for years to make these resources available!

Cheers,
Peter
