Interactive soundings have returned

Our interactive model/RAOB soundings have returned at http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/. These pages are now handled by a new web server, separate from the rest of our EMB web products. Unfortunately, we were not able to transfer our old gif-based soundings (http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/gifs/) to the new server. These products relied on a no-longer-supported version of IDL graphics language to generate the plots, and that version does not run on our new server. Because our interactive soundings page now provides non-java plots in HTML5, which can be used on tablets and smartphones, and also provides soundings as ascii text, the decision was made to not continue to maintain the gif-based soundings. The only capability from the gif-based sounding page that is not available at the main soundings page is the availability of some soundings in SHARP format. We're sorry for the loss of that. Please let me (bill.moninger@noaa.gov) know of any problems with the new soundings pages. In order to limit forum traffic, please don't reply to the forum. -Bill Moninger
