Hello all, Curtis Alexander (ESRL) and Geoff Manikin (NCEP) last month put together a recent summary on the RAPv3/HRRRv2 and their improvements over the current operational RAPv2/HRRRv1 at NCEP: http://ruc.noaa.gov/pdf/RAPHRRR_WCOSS_2016Q1_Final.pdf. The joint implementation of RAPv3/HRRRv2 at NCEP replacing RAPv2/HRRRv1 is now roughly targeted in the Nov-Dec 2015 time range.

Within this linked document, it is clear that there is a substantial daytime warm/dry bias in the operational RAP(v2)/HRRR(v1) models, as most of you users have also noticed. As shown in slides 17-18, these biases are largely removed in the experimental RAPv3/HRRRv2 now running experimentally at ESRL, available from http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov and http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/HRRR. ---Stan.Benjamin
