Soundings outage

Hello folks, Thank you for the emails regarding unavailability of RUC and other model (and RAOB) soundings from http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/. For the last few days, we have been experiencing very heavy load on our server. If the load it too high, requests for new soundings are simply ignored, in order to protect our server from crashing. We know this isn't a very satisfactory response to the user, but until recently this only happened occasionally. We expect that the load is coming from one or a few automated systems accessing many soundings. We'll try to find the source of this load and eliminate it, so that other, non-automated users, will receive better service. If you happen to be running an automated script to gather soundings, and have made any change to it recently, please look into things to insure that you're not hitting our server too often, or asking for too much data. Our apologies for the outage. We hope we'll quickly once again provide the rapid response you've come to appreciate. -Bill
