Hello, a couple of items on the Rapid Refresh:
1. Consider the RUC Forum for questions and answers as the Rapid Refresh/RUC Forum from this point on. Questions and information on the Rapid Refresh are welcome here.
2. The current planned date for the official implementation of the Rapid Refresh at NCEP replacing the RUC is now in mid-November. This date is dependent on the progress toward the NAM upgrade next month at NCEP, since RR testing by NCEP/NCO cannot start until the NAM implementation occurs.
3. There is a great deal of information on the Rapid Refresh available under http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov, including real-time graphics, RR/RUC comparison websites (http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/gmanikin/rap/para and http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/RR/Welcome.cgi?dsKey=rr%eAruc.
4. A new pdf with information on the Rapid Refresh (13km, like the RUC) and the experimental 3km is available at http://ruc.noaa.gov/pdf/RR-HRRR-NWS-SR-23aug2011.pdf. (Sorry, it's a bit large - 28 MB.)
