Alex,

What you see as CAPE "between two levels" is the CAPE with the most unstable parcel from 0-300 hPa from the surface. Yes, it is equivalent to MUCAPE.

Below is what I get running wgrib2 on a RUC GRIB2 file; variable 310 is this most unstable CAPE with parcel from 0-300 hPa.
