The 13km RUC operational implementation at NCEP is STILL scheduled for next Tuesday, 28 June 2005. Evaluations of the RUC13 (vs. the current RUC20) from the NCEP AWC, SPC, OPC, and HPC and the NWS Central Region have all been positive and in support of the implementation. Another post will be made next Tuesday when the implementation is made, unless there is some unforeseen event. Here is the summary from a previous post: The main differences from the current 20km RUC are improved surface forecasts, precipitation/cloud forecasts, and use of new observation types in the RUC analysis. It is currently undergoing an evaluation by NWS and NCEP Centers. Extensive documentation on the RUC13, including significant differences from the RUC20, was updated in late May at http://ruc.fsl.noaa.gov/ruc13_docs/RUC13.summary.htm and http://ruc.fsl.noaa.gov/ruc13_docs/RUC13ppt.htm. Intercomparisons between oper RUC20 and para RUC13 can be viewed (still, as of 6/22, but only through 6/27) at http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/ruc2/para (developed by Geoff Manikin at NCEP/EMC). Please use this forum for questions/comments of common interest. The online documents listed above are the best sources of information. Stan Benjamin
