NCEP Central Operations moved the suite of operational models to a new supercomputer on 25 January 2005. Unfortunately, the code they used to build the executables for this new machine did not contain the changes made to the RUC analysis code last September. (See the posts made around 28 September 2004 for more information.) The result was some odd temperature and dew point analyses (and resultant forecasts) over the past week and some general dryness. The error was found yesterday, and the newest version of the code was introduced back into the model yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, due to cycling, some of the errors remained today, so a new first guess (from a version of the model containing the updated code) was brought in for the 19Z cycle this afternoon 3 February. Everything should be on track now, but please contact us or post in the forum if you observe odd characteristics in the model output.
