I'd like to state that the original posting is _very_ atypical of the
gliding community. Over years of dealing with soaring pilots I have
heard only highly favorable remarks about the FSL and their sounding
forecast webpage in particular. I have never heard anyone else
complain about their occasionally being down and I think most
recognize that FSL is a research group, not an "operational" provider,
and is grateful that FSL has been a leader in providing such
information to a wider audience via the Internet (much in advance of
"operational" groups such as NCEP).

I was particularly flabbergasted by the picture it evoked of pilots
not being able to launch until they got a sounding prediction: "Hey
Joe, there's no weather forecast for today so we can't go flying"!
