RUC BUFR data has precip amount on the analysis

We have been seeing precipitation amounts showing up in the analysis hour in the BUFR data for our station lately. It does not occur on every run but it did show up several times while we had good weather under a ridge. Most recently, we found 0.04 inches (liquid precip Yes/No was Yes) at 00 hours on the 15Z data for 723810 (KEDW) on 12/16/2002. We are using the exact same decoder that I use for the ETA BUFR files and am not seeing this in the ETA data. Here is the output... 2002121615Z Model Output For Station KEDW (723810) From The RUC-20
VALID 10M/10M 2M 2M 2M SEA Z I PCT PCT PCT STORM
16/15Z 234/008 49 42 74 1012.4 30.04 2194 2197 Y N N N 0.04 0.0 999 999 999 278/046
I know it should not do this on a fair weather day but should it even output anything on the 00 hour fcst on a precip day? Phil |
