Message: RUC20 analyses - OSO - early/late run confusion

Posted by Stan Benjamin on 23 Apr 02, 15:56 MT

As many of you know, there are two analysis runs done for the RUC at 0000 and 1200 UTC with different data cut-off times. The first (called the A run) runs at about 30 min, and misses 2/3 of the rawinsonde data -- this is meant to be an early look. The second (called the B run) runs at 55 min, and gets a fairly full set of raob data.

Since the implementation of the RUC20 last Wed, the analysis data that has been getting to the OSO server is only the A analysis. The B analysis has not been getting copied. This is fixed for the 00z run tonight.

So, if any of you have been noting poorer fit to raob data with the RUC20, this is why.

Let me ask if any of you can see any problem if there were no A analysis at 00z and 12z from the RUC?

Geoff Manikin and I have discussed that this might be a good way to prevent future confusion.
