Message: P-tendency field (GRIB)

Posted by Greg Thompson on 27 Jan 00, 10:21 MT

This is addressed mostly to Stan and Geoff M.

The sfc RUC2 GRIB files claim that the pressure tendency field has units of
pascals/second. Thus I multiply by 3600/100 (36) in order to make them in
mb/hr for my plotting purposes (www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/model). As of about
the new year, my plots no longer show contours (just Highs and Lows with
values in the hundreds). Something tells me the units are not Pa/s as
indicated in the GRIB. Can someone fix this? I haven't looked to see if
the problem also exists in the pressure-level GRIB files.

Thanks mucho!
