Message: Dropwindsonde data in RUC-2!

Posted by Tracy Lorraine Smith on 26 Aug 98, 10:23 MT

The RUC-2 is making full use of the dropwindsonde data being generated
to define Bonnie. This is another "improvement" of the RUC-2 over the
RUC-1 which was not able to ingest these important observations. The
40km-MAPS running at FSL is also dropwindsondeless, and so the analyses
and forecasts weren't as sharp until recently when she came close enough
to shore to start influencing the more conventional data sets (buoys, metars).

Please let us know what you think of the RUC-2's handling of this
tropical event.
