There is a new web page available to keep track of how many obs
of each type get into the RUC2 at NCEP. It is updated each hour,
and is produced from information in the RUC2 output logs at NCEP.
It is at http://maps.fsl.noaa.gov/final.ruc_data.html.

We understand that some day it would be nice for users to be able
to see exactly which obs get into the models. That won't happen
for a while, but hopefully this page will allow you to track
more about what is getting into the RUC.
