Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
718 PM MST Sun Feb 17 2019 .DISCUSSION... 700PM UPDATE: Changes to the forecast first focused on the temperatures across the region which where a bit warmer than anticipated over the next few hours. These were dropped a few a degrees to level out the diurnal curve over the next three hours as cloud coverage should stay overcast and minimize any change through the evening. Cloud bases were also raised across the board as multiple models are very bias to the low side in IFR conditions for the last couple days, even when VFR conditions above 3Kft have been rather regular in observations. Aside from that most of the forecast has stayed put and is in excellent shape. GAH PREVIOUS SHORT TERM DISCUSSION: Winter storm over NE Montana is now entering the dissipating phase. Visibility has improved, ceilings have risen, and snowfall intensities on radar have weakened. Felt it was best to cancel the Winter Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory now and mention that any additional snow accumulation will be light. Chose issue a new Wind Chill Advisory for this evening/tonight. Expecting values between 20 below and 35 below. Winds might be light, but impacts will still be there. Excellent model agreement shows that the last of the snowfall will linger and diminish to flurries over our central and eastern zones by Monday morning. Clearing skies on Monday night will allow for overnight low temperatures to drop down again to 15 below to 20 below. Wind Chill concerns will obviously need to be addressed again. No additional snow is expected until another low pressure trough pushes through with some light snow showers on Thursday. Daily high temperatures toward the latter part of the week are beginning to show a slight improvement into the teens above zero. BMickelson && .AVIATION... FLIGHT CAT: MVFR - VFR. DISCUSSION: The last band of light snow from Jordan to Glasgow to Opheim is finally beginning to dissipate as of 02Z. Conditions should quickly improve to at least MVFR at KGGW before midnight while they are already at VFR for the other terminals. COLD: Temperatures below zero will likely last from 06Z to 19Z and could cause equipment problems for light aircraft and terminal operations. WIND: North to northwest at 10 kts or less through Monday morning. Becoming light and variable Monday afternoon. GAH && .GLASGOW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
